We reviewed Phonesuit’s Elite battery case for the iPhone 4S back in May of 2012. In 2013 we’re eager to get our hands on the iPhone 5 compatible version. While we were trolling the iLounge this afternoon at CES, we happened across a little booth that caught our eyes. We stopped in because we saw some sexy wood skins scattered across shelves and peg hooks. Toast is a company based out of my neck of the woods, Portland Oregon, and the reason they came about is because the CEO wanted to protect his iPhone, but hated how bulky actual cases were. He wanted something nice and not just some protective skin. So he decided it was time to use what we have plenty of here in Portland – trees.…

In regards to smartphones, we are power users – real power users. If we make it to midday with > 30% it’s something to celebrate. On the iPhone 4 and 4S we made it through each and every day with battery cases (and occasionally battery packs on top of that). For the iPhone 5, however, things haven’t caught up. Apple made some changes to their certification and approval processes with the Lightning connecter that has caused a huge bottleneck in actual product coming to market.
