Microsoft smartphone patents snapped up by Xiaomi

800px-Xiaomi_logoXiaomi is a Chinese based smartphone (and wearable) manufacturer that has so far managed to pump out some awesome high end (on paper) phones for relatively mid-range prices. Thus far however, the U.S. market hasn’t gotten a taste of these devices. But that could change soon…finally. Xiaomi has snapped up ~1500 of Microsoft’s smartphone patents. In exchange, Microsoft gets cash (of course) and the perk of having their Android Office apps pre-installed on Xiaomi hardware going forward.

Financials regarding the cost of said patents were not revealed.
