project-fi-logoFans of Google’s “Project Fi” initiative will be pleased to know that it is apparently here to stay (for the foreseeable future, at least). Today, the invite-only Google Carrier has been opened up to everyone, ditching the waiting line, according to a post on the Project Fi blog.

While the T-Mobile/Sprint powered conglomerate is surely a niche network for a small subset of Android users, it’s nice to know that Google is pushing ahead. Ultimately, it’s a great idea on paper and for the right person, a fantastic option.

To sweeten the deal, Google is offering the Nexus 5X for just $199 (through the next month) since Nexus devices are the only devices that support Fi at this time.

If you were thinking about joining Project Fi and either didn’t want to wait or drop the cash on another phone, now may be the time to take the plunge.
