zenwatch-2-4Many expected the ever increasing pace of technology and innovation at the small scale to affect the timespan between release cycles for smartwatches and wearables. And for the most part, those assumptions were true, at least looking at ASUS and their newly announced Zen Watch 2.

The Zen Watch 2 comes just ~6 months after the first model graced our field of view. And like it’s predecessor there are two sizes: 37mm and 41mm. The two sizes also both get their own sized watch bands at 18mm and 22mm respectively. The larger model also comes with a “Chargeback” case on the back of it. Other specs include a 2.5″ OLED display covered in Gorilla Glass 3, currently unnamed Qualcomm processor and a new crown adorning one side of the watch. It’s also worth noting the Zen Watch 2’s improved IP67 dust/waterproof rating for those of you looking to get a bit more adventurous.

zenwatch-2-5-copyCustomization junkies can choose 3 body colors (silver, gunmetal and rose-gold) and many options on the band front color-wise, via materials such as rubber, soft leather and metal. More specifically:

  • Rubber (read: athletic) strap: Blue, Orange, Red, and Taupe
  • Leather strap: Khaki, Brown, Gray, Blue, and Orange
  • Stainless steel: Silver, Gunmetal or Rose Gold
  • Special editions: Swarovski leather strap with “embossed diamond pattern and tastefully accented with Swarovski”

For now, more detailed and complete specs as well as launch/pricing info is still up in the air.

The Zen Watch 2 looks to be a nice evolution of the Zen Watch 1. Because of that, if you weren’t sold on the first gen model’s design or overall look, chances are the newly updated model won’t do much to strike your fancy either. That said, once we find out more about the processor and more concrete battery life figures, it may just be enough to woo you, no?
